The Red Scarlet Hermit Crab (Paguristes cadenati), also known as the Scarlet Reef Hermit Crab, is a vibrant and hardworking marine invertebrate prized for its brilliant red legs, bright yellow face, and excellent cleaning abilities. This peaceful, reef-safe hermit crab is a popular addition to saltwater aquariums and reef cleanup crews.
Native to the Caribbean, the Scarlet Hermit Crab spends its time exploring live rock and sandy surfaces, feeding on nuisance algae, detritus, and leftover food. Its scavenging habits help maintain a cleaner and healthier aquarium environment.
The Scarlet Hermit Crab thrives in established saltwater aquariums with stable water parameters and plenty of hiding places. Providing extra empty shells allows it to grow comfortably and helps minimize competition with other shell-dwelling invertebrates.
With its striking coloration, peaceful temperament, and beneficial cleaning habits, the Red Scarlet Hermit Crab makes an excellent addition to almost any established reef aquarium.
