Testing Kits
Salifert - Calcium Test Kit
Ships with your livestock order! Salifert Calcium Test Kit Calcium is a major constituent of coralline algae, the skeletal material of hard corals and the skeletal needles of soft/leather corals. In many cases too low a calcium concentration retards coral and coralline algae growth. Calcium also fulfills many important biological functions. In a healthy aquarium, the growth and multiplication of corals, calcareous algae and other organisms can result in calcium depletion. To maintain a stable environment it is important that the calcium content should not fluctuate by more than 15 mg/L from the optimum range of 420 - 450 mg/L so regular testing should be carried out. This means that any calcium test used should have an accuracy of significantly less than 15mg/L otherwise it will be difficult to monitor such fluctuations. The Salifert test kit measures in steps of 5 mg/L and has an accuracy of 10 mg/L. The color change is precise, detecting small but significant fluctuations in the concentration of calcium. The test is not affected by magnesium. Sufficient for 50-100 tests. Can be used for marine water, freshwater and garden pond water Warning!Ca-1 reagent contains sodium hydroxide and is strongly irritating to skin and eyes. In case of contact with skin wash with plenty of water. In case of contact with the eyes wash with plenty water and consult a physician immediately. Not for consumption. Keep out of reach of children. If swallowed contact a physician immediately. *Discount codes cannot be applied to this product

Salifert - Nitrate Test Kit
Ships with your livestock order! Nitrate Profi-Test When there are insufficient areas of a tank which are deprived of oxygen (anaerobic zones) or denitrification is not taking place properly, nitrate will build up. This can also happen in an aquarium where the biological loading on the system is causing an imbalance e.g. if there is excessive livestock for the aquarium volume or over feeding is occurring. The build up of nitrate can result in unwanted algae growth and the slowing down of coral growth. The nitrate concentration in a reef aquarium should be lower than 1 mg/L, although fish only aquariums would usually have a higher concentration. Just as with nitrite, many nitrate test kits are prone to amine interference which can make the levels of nitrate appear much lower than they actually are. The Salifert test kit does not suffer from such interference and gives accurate and quick results with a total testing time of less than 3 minutes. The test kit’s range goes from a very low to a very high nitrate concentration (approx. 0.2 - 100 mg/L as total nitrate). Sufficient for 50 tests. This test offers two ranges:Low range: 0.2 - 10 mg/L (ppm) as nitrate.Medium range: 2 - 100 mg/L (ppm) as nitrate.Clean test vial and scoop after use. Store this kit in a dry place.Warning!KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. *Discount codes cannot be applied to this product

Salifert - Phosphate Test Kit
Ships with your livestock order! Salifert Phosphate Profi-Test If phosphate is present in too high a concentration there may be an increase in growth of undesirable algae and if the phosphate level is higher than 0.04 mg/L the growth rate of corals and calcareous algae may decrease by as much as 90%. Washing fish food (a rich source of phosphates) after thawing can significantly reduce the input of phosphate, and using a high grade, phosphate free activated carbon can also help to keep phosphate levels as low as possible. The Salifert Phosphate test kit detects, in less than 5 seconds, the level of phosphate present. There are two different ranges within the kit: a low range for phosphate-phosphor from 0.01 - 1 mg/L and a medium range for phosphate-phosphor from 0.02 - 2 mg/L. Sufficient for 60 tests. Can be used for marine, fresh and garden pond water Specifications Erroneous results might be obtained when the carbonate hardness is higher that 20dKH. This corresponds to an alkalinity of 7meq/l. Normally the carbonate hardness is well below the above mentioned values.Warning!Irritating: PO4-1 contains < 3.5 M HCL.R36/37/38: Irritating to eyes, respiratory system and skin.S26: In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. *Discount codes cannot be applied to this product

Salifert - KH/Alkalinity Test Kit
Ships with your livestock order! Salifert KH/Alkalinity Profi-Test Calcium is not the only substance needed to form the skeletal material of corals and allow calcareous algae to grow. Carbonate and bicarbonate are also needed and these two substances can have a major effect on stabilizing or buffering pH levels in the aquarium in the correct range of 8.1 to 8.4. The total carbonate and bicarbonate concentration is also called alkalinity or carbonate hardness and for a stable system the alkalinity should not fluctuate by more than 5% from the optimum level of approx. 2.8 meq/L i.e. a maximum fluctuation of 0.14 meq/L. The Salifert test is sensitive enough to detect small changes in levels of alkalinity, measuring in steps of 0.1 meq/L and demonstrating a very sharp color change. Sufficient for 100 to 200 tests. The Salifert KH + pH buffer additive makes correction of the alkalinity or carbonate hardness simple and does not upset the pH of the system Can be used for marine water, frewshwater and garden pond water Warning! The KH/Alkalinity reageant contains a dye. Avoid spilling the dye on fabric and other materials since they may become stained. Keep out of reach of children. Not for consumption. *Discount codes cannot be applied to this product

Salifert - Flatworm Exit
Ships with your livestock order! Flatworm eXit itself is quite safe to fish and invertebrates. However, the body juice of flatworms can be toxic to some reef inhabitants when present in a too high concentration. This body juice is sometimes excreted when flatworms die.So when you use this product it is important to do the following first: Siphon out as many flatworms as possible. Keep sufficient fresh activated carbon in a canister ready. Turn off UV, ozone and remove activated carbon. Keep the skimmer turned on. Important remarksBelow given remarks are a.o. meant to reduce the amount of the flatworm`s toxic body juices in the water. Many people have treated their reef tank(s) successfully using Flatworm eXit without any problems. The most important factors are reducing the number of flatworms before commencing with the treatment and reducing the amount of the flatworm`s body juice, released when they die, as fast as possible.Do not underestimate the number of flatworms in your system. In a few cases a significant number of flatworms can be hiding in, for example, crevices. Blow in such and any other potential hiding places, water, to blow any flatworm out of there. For that purpose you can use a powerhead or a turkey baster. Siphon out those flatworms as well.Furthermore, do not underestimate the amount of toxic body-juices these flatworms can excrete. This can be reduced significantly by really siphoning out the flatworms before commencing with the treatment. Further significant reduction is accomplished by siphoning out as many dead flatworms as you can.Any body juice released by the dead flatworms in the water has to be reduced further by using about 1 pound of fresh high quality carbon for every 50 gallons. The carbon has to be used in a canister with a sufficient forced water flow.Take sufficient time for treating the tank. That is, do not treat your tank in a hurry. Also, take time to monitor your tank for at least 6 hours after the treatment. It is also wise to have at least 25% water ready for a water change if required. *Discount codes cannot be applied to this product

API Nitrate Test Kit
Measures nitrate levels in both fresh & saltwater aquariums. Tests nitrate levels from 0 to 160 ppm. 90 tests per kit.Freshwater/Saltwater Nitrate Test Instructions:Why Test For Nitrate?Nitrate (NO3-) is produced in the aquarium by the biological filter. Beneficial bacteria in the biological filter convert toxic ammonia and nitrite into nitrate. A high nitrate level indicates a build-up of fish waste and organic compounds, resulting in poor water quality and contributing to the likelihood of fish disease. Excessive nitrate also provides a nitrogen source that can stimulate algal blooms. In the opinion of many aquarists, maintaining a low nitrate level improves the health of fish and invertebrates.Testing Tips:This test kit reads total nitrate (NO3-) level in parts per million (ppm) which are equivalent to milligrams per liter (mg/L) from 0 ppm to 160 ppm, in either fresh or saltwater aquariums. This kit includes two Nitrate Test Color Charts — one for freshwater aquariums, and one for saltwater aquariums — so be sure to use the correct chart for your type of aquarium when interpreting test results. The Freshwater Nitrate Test Color Chart is the appropriate chart to use for testing freshwater aquariums to which salt has been added. This test kit measures nitrate as nitrate ion or “total nitrate.” Other nitrate test kits that measure “nitrate-nitrogen” (NO3-N) will give readings 4.4 times LESS than this test kit.Directions for Testing Nitrate: Read thoroughly before testing. Do not allow Test Solutions to get into aquarium. To remove childproof safety cap: With one hand, push red tab left with thumb while unscrewing cap with free hand. Fill a clean test tube with 5 ml of water to be tested (to the line on the tube). Add 10 drops from Nitrate Test Solution Bottle # 1, holding dropper bottle upside down in a completely vertical position to assure uniformity of drops added to the water sample. Cap the test tube and invert tube several times to mix solution. Do not hold finger over the open end of the tube, as this may affect test results. Vigorously shake the Nitrate Test Solution Bottle # 2 for at least 30 seconds. This step is extremely important to insure accuracy of test results. Now add 10 drops from Nitrate Test Solution Bottle #2, holding dropper bottle upside down in a completely vertical position to assure uniformity of drops to the water sample. Cap the test tube and shake vigorously for one minute. This step is extremely important to insure accuracy of test results. Wait five minutes for the color to develop. Read the test results by matching the color of the solution against those on the Nitrate Test Color Chart. The tube should be viewed against the white area beside the color chart. Color comparisons are best made in a well-lit area. The closest match indicates the ppm (mg/L) of nitrate in the water sample. Rinse the test tube with clean water after each use. What The Test Results Mean:In new freshwater and saltwater aquariums the nitrate level will gradually climb as the biological filter becomes established. A nitrate level of 40 ppm (mg/L) or less is recommended for freshwater aquariums. Many marine aquarists prefer to keep nitrate levels as low as possible, especially when keeping invertebrates.Monitoring Nitrate Levels:Regular testing for nitrate is an essential part of routine aquarium maintenance. Aquarium water should be tested for nitrate once a week to make sure the nitrate does not reach an undesirable level.Reducing Nitrate in the Aquarium:In FreshwaterUse Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Nitra-Zorb™ to remove nitrate from freshwater aquariums. Nitra-Zorb is a rechargeable filtration material that removes nitrate from freshwater. Making partial water changes can also help reduce the nitrate level, especially if the initial nitrate level is very high. However, because many tap water supplies contain nitrate, it can be difficult to lower nitrate levels by this method. Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Tap Water Purifier will remove all pollutants, including nitrate, from tap water, making water changes effective. The Tap Water Purifier makes any tap water perfect aquarium water. In SaltwaterPartial water changes are the easiest way to lower the nitrate in a saltwater aquarium. Keep in mind, however, that the biological filter constantly produces nitrate. Also, because many tap water supplies contain nitrate, it can be difficult to lower nitrate levels by this method. Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Tap Water Purifier will remove all pollutants, including nitrate, from the tap water— making water changes effective. The Tap Water Purifier makes any tap water perfect aquarium water.DANGER: HARMFUL Xn & CORROSIVE C Bottle #1 contains 41% Hydrochloric acid Causes burns Irritating to respiratory system Harmful if swallowed Keep locked up and out of the reach of children In case of contact with eyes or skin, rinse immediately with plenty of water (at least 15 minutes) and seek medical advice immediately Remove contaminated clothing Wear suitable gloves and eye/face protection In case of accident or if you feel unwell, seek medical advice immediately (show label where possible). API Ammonia Test Kit
Salicylate test measures ammonia levels in both fresh & saltwater aquariums. Ammonia, the #1 killer of tropical fish, is continually produced in the aquarium from fish waste & uneaten fish food. Tests ammonia levels from 0 to 8 ppm. Test kit of 110 tests. Why test for Ammonia?Tropical fish continually release ammonia (NH3) directly into the aquarium through their gills, urine, and solid waste. Uneaten food and other decaying organic matter also add ammonia to the water. A natural mechanism exists that controls ammonia in the aquarium – the biological filter. It is made up of nitrifying bacteria, which live in the gravel bed. However, as with any natural process, imbalances can occur. Testing for the presence of toxic ammonia is essential, so that once detected, steps can be taken to remove it. Otherwise, ammonia in the aquarium will damage gill membranes, and prevent fish from carrying on normal respiration. High levels of ammonia quickly lead to fish death. Even trace amounts stress fish, suppressing their immune system and thereby increasing the likelihood of disease outbreaks and subsequent fish loss.Testing Tips:This salicylate based ammonia test kit reads the total ammonia level in parts per million (ppm) which are equivalent to milligrams per Liter (mg/L) from 0 ppm to 8.0 ppm (mg/L), in either fresh or saltwater aquariums. Thus, there are two Ammonia Test Color Charts — one for freshwater aquariums, and one for saltwater aquariums — so be sure to use the correct chart for your type of aquarium when interpreting test results. The Freshwater Ammonia Test Color Chart is the appropriate chart to use for testing freshwater aquariums to which salt has been added.Directions for Testing Ammonia Levels Read thoroughly before testing. Do not allow Test Solutions to get into aquarium. To remove childproof safety cap: With one hand, push red tab left with thumb while unscrewing cap with free hand. Fill a clean test tube with 5 ml of water to be tested (to the line on the tube). Add 8 drops from Ammonia Test Solution Bottle #1, holding the dropper bottle upside down in a completely vertical position to assure uniformity of drops added to the water sample. Add 8 drops from Ammonia Test Solution Bottle #2, holding the dropper bottle upside down in a completely vertical position to assure uniformity of drops added to the water sample. Cap the test tube and shake vigorously for 5 seconds. Do not hold finger over the open end of the tube, as this may affect the test results. Wait 5 minutes for the color to develop. Read the test results by matching the test solution against the Ammonia Test Color Chart. The tube should be viewed against the white area beside the color chart. Color comparisons are best made in a well-lit area. The closest match indicates the ppm (mg/L) of ammonia in the water sample. Rinse the test tube with clean water after each use. What the Test Results Mean:In a new freshwater or saltwater aquarium, the ammonia level may surge to 6 ppm (mg/L) or more, and then fall rapidly as the biological filter becomes established. The ammonia will be converted to nitrite (also toxic), then to nitrate. This process may take several weeks. Use Aquarium Pharmaceuticals STRESS ZYME® to speed up the development of the biological filter. In an established aquarium, the ammonia level should always remain at 0 ppm (mg/L). The presence of ammonia indicates possible over-feeding, too many fish, or inadequate biological filtration. The ammonia level is not an indication of the nitrite level; nitrite is another toxic waste material which must be tested separately.Monitoring Ammonia Levels:Regular testing is necessary to make sure the ammonia level is safe. Aquarium water should be tested for ammonia every other day when the aquarium is first set up, and once a week after the biological filter has been established (in about 4 to 6 weeks).Detoxifying Ammonia Using AMMO-LOCK® in Freshwater and Saltwater Aquariums:To detoxify ammonia, use Aquarium Pharmaceuticals AMMO-LOCK to instantly lock up ammonia. AMMO-LOCK does not remove ammonia, it simply converts toxic ammonia to a non-toxic form. Ammonia test kits will still test positive for ammonia, even though it is non-toxic. The biological filter will then consume the non-toxic ammonia, converting it to nitrite and then to nitrate.Filtering Method to Remove Ammonia in Freshwater Aquariums:Filter aquarium water with Aquarium Pharmaceuticals AMMO-CARB® or AMMO-CHIPS® to remove ammonia and improve water quality.Water ChangesChanging 25% of the aquarium water will reduce the ammonia level. In an emergency, a daily water change may be required over several days. Be sure to use a water conditioner like Stress Coat® or AMMO-LOCK, when adding tap water back into the aquarium.Danger: HARMFUL & CORROSIVE C Bottle #2 contains sodium hydroxide and sodium hypochlorite Causes severe burns Contact with acids liberates toxic gas Toxic by inhalation, in contact with skin and if swallowed Danger of cumulative effects Keep locked up and out of the reach of children Keep away from food, drink and animal feeding stuffs In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water (at least 15 minutes) and seek medical advice immediately. API Nitrite Test Kit,
Test reads 0 to 10 mg/ or parts per million (ppm) of phosphate. Helps to decrease the likelyhood og having unsightly algae and green water blooms.Test kit of 150 tests. Why test for Phosphate?Phosphate enters the aquarium from fish and invertebrate waste and decaying organic matter, such as dead algae and uneaten fish food. Water treatment facilities may add phosphate to tap water to prevent pipe corrosion and reduce concentrations of heavy metals in drinking water.Unnecessary phosphate may cause an undesirable cloud or tint in aquarium water. In saltwater aquariums, phosphate precipitates dissolved calcium (Ca2+) and magnesium (Mg2+) ions, inhibiting the growth of hard corals and other reef-building organisms.Testing Tips:The Phosphate Test Kit reads the total phosphate level in parts per million (ppm), which are equivalent to milligrams per liter (mg/L) from 0 ppm (mg/L) to 10.0 ppm (mg/L), in either freshwater or saltwater aquariums. There are two Phosphate Test Color Charts – one for freshwater aquariums, and one for saltwater aquariums – so be sure to use the correct chart for your type of aquarium when interpreting test results. The Freshwater Phosphate Test Color Chart is the appropriate chart to use for testing freshwater aquariums to which salt has been added or for testing a pond.Directions for Testing Phosphate Levels Read thoroughly before testing. Do not allow test solutions to get into aquarium. To remove childproof safety cap: With one hand, push red tab left with thumb while unscrewing cap with free hand. Fill the test tube with 5ml of water to be tested (to the line on the tube). Add 6 drops from Phosphate Test Solution Bottle #1 to the test tube, holding the dropper bottle upside down in a completely vertical position to assure uniformity of drops added to the water sample. Cap and shake the test tube vigorously for 5 seconds. Add 6 drops from Phosphate Test Solution Bottle #2 to the test tube, holding the dropper bottle upside down in a completely vertical position to assure uniformity of drops added to the water sample. Bottle #2 has a very thick solution and may require increased pressure while squeezing to release drops. Cap and shake the test tube vigorously for 5 seconds. Wait 3 minutes for full color to develop. After waiting 3 minutes. read the test results by matching the test solution against the appropriate Phosphate Test Color Chart. The tube should be viewed against the white area beside the color chart. Color comparisons are best made in a well-lit area. The closest match indicates the ppm (mg/L) of total phosphate (PO3–4) in the water sample. Rinse the test tube with clean water after each use. What the Test Results Mean:Ideally, the phosphate level should be zero in saltwater aquariums and freshwater aquariums or ponds, including those containing live plants. The phosphate level in a new aquarium will depend on the purity of the water used to fill the aquarium. Phosphate level in tap water can vary daily depending on the treatment process used. Phosphate tends to accumulate in established aquariums.Reducing Phosphate using Phos-Zorb™:To continually remove phosphate from the aquarium, use Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Phos-Zorb. Phos-Zorb is a special filtration resin that removes phosphate and silicate ions from freshwater and saltwater aquariums.Reducing Phosphate by Water Changes:To quickly reduce phosphate levels, perform a partial water change. Remove any dirt and uneaten fish food from the bottom of the aquarium and change 25% to 50% of the water, depending on the phosphate concentration. To be sure the water source does not contain phosphate, use the Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Tap Water Filter™ to remove all unwanted phosphate before adding water to your aquarium.Corrosive: Bottle #1: Contains sulfuric acid. API Phosphate Test Kit
